John Fetterman, recently criticized by some Democrats for his lack of a campaign presence in Pennsylvania’s major cities, was all-in on Pittsburgh at a rainy public rally in the Strip District on Saturday as the race for Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate seat draws nearer.

After walking out to “Renegade,” the 1979 Styx song that receives regular play at Steelers’ home games, Mr. Fetterman pitched a sort of yinzer-inflected populism as he rallied in front of a crowd of more than 600 people in a parking lot along Smallman Street.

They are the buzzwords of New York City crime circa 2022: Random and unprovoked.

Jaden Nixon returned the second-half kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown while Spencer Sanders ran and threw for touchdowns as ninth-ranked Oklahoma State beat No. 16 Baylor 36-25. The game Saturday was a rematch of last year’s Big 12 championship game won by Baylor. The return by Nixon started a flurry of 39 combined points in the third quarter. The 4-0 Cowboys also beat Baylor in the regular season last year. Baylor is 3-2 and both losses are to ranked teams. Sanders threw for 181 yards. Blake Shapen threw for 345 yards for the Bears.

Tropical Storm Ian has claimed four lives in North Carolina thus far, Gov. Roy Cooper said Saturday, including the victims of two traffic accidents and a carbon monoxide poisoning, all in Johnston County.

Former President Jimmy Carter planned a simple 98th birthday celebration with family, friends and the Atlanta Braves. But the well-wishes extended far beyond his Plains, Georgia, home.

It was Tuesday morning, the day before Hurricane Ian bulldozed into Southwest Florida and already less than 24 hours before Gov. Ron DeSantis declared it was too late for remaining residents to evacuate.

The National Archives has informed congressional lawmakers that a number of electronic communications from Trump White House staffers remain missing, nearly two years since the administration was required to turn them over. The nation’s record-keeping agency cited the records' status in a letter Friday to the House Committee on Oversight and Reform. The acting U.S. archivist, Debra Steidel Wall, writes that despite an ongoing effort by staff, electronic communications between certain unidentified White House officials are still not in their custody. The letter went on to specify that the National Archives would consult with the Justice Department about how to recover “the records unlawfully removed.”

AJ Allmendinger finally won his first race on a superspeedway with a last-lap pass that allowed him to beat Sam Mayer to the Talladega Superspeedway finish line by less than three feet. Allmendinger’s fourth Xfinity Series win of the season locked him into the next round of the playoffs and afforded him the luxury to not hold back in next week’s elimination race on The Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where Allmendinger is a perfect 3-for-3 in his career. But he’d never been as fortunate on a superspeedways until he denied Mayer his first career Xfinity Series victory by 0.015 seconds.

Brazil’s two top presidential contenders focused Saturday on rallying supporters in Sao Paulo, the biggest city, a day before the country’s general election.

Teoscar Hernández homered, doubled twice and singled, Danny Jansen drove in five runs and the Toronto Blue Jays moved one step closer to wrapping up the top spot in the AL wild-card race, routing the Boston Red Sox 10-0. The Blue Jays began the day with a 1 1/2-game lead over Seattle atop the wild-card standings. Ross Stripling and four relievers combined on a four-hitter as Toronto shut out the Red Sox for the second straight day. Jansen homered, doubled and singled and Bo Bichette went 4 for 4 as Toronto opened October with a 21-hit outburst, delighting a sellout crowd of 44,612. The Blue Jays are 15-3 against the Red Sox this season, matching the most wins they’ve ever had in a season against a single opponent.

The United Nations says an 85-year-old Iranian-American who formerly worked for the U.N. children’s agency and was detained in Iran in 2016 has been permitted to leave the country for medical treatment abroad. U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric announced Baquer Namazi's departure Saturday.  He says Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is grateful that Namazi could leave following the U.N. chief’s appeals to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. Dujarric says the secretary-general is also pleased that Namazi’s son, Siamak Namazi, has been released from detention. Both Namazis were sentenced to 10 years in prison on what the U.S. and U.N. say were trumped-up spying charges.
