In this sibling rivalry pony car showdown, there's also a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat along for the ride.

Here’s an automotive drag race between various pony cars, all falling under the iconic Ford Mustang model except for one muscular rival: the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.

In this edition of drag races the common denominator is a fifth-generation Ford Mustang in a drag-ready state and a score to settle with its predecessors.

But all these Mustangs are quick, so we look at the race compilation courtesy of the ever-prolific Drag Racing And Car Stuff YouTube channel to see if the modern Mustang can beat all the competition - including the Hellcat.

It’s going down at the Tulsa Raceway Park this time and it’s a dry day with fair weather. With that in mind, nothing can get in the way of the motorsports shenanigans. First up we get the first appearance of the S197 (fifth generation) Ford Mustang GT. This example is a turbocharged car full of modifications and sporting a parachute at the back hinting at its potential. It's also painted in famous Grabber Blue.

In the other lane, there’s a Mustang from the other end of the spectrum. This one is a first-generation Ford Mustang Fastback drag racer in orange with the forced-induction piping sticking through a hole in the hood.

It’s a dramatic green light as both cars take off similarly and stay neck and neck to the end, where the S197 beats the old-timer with a 9.188 time vs 9.366 and 132 mph vs 143 mph, revealing the high-end potential of the old Mustang.

Before the second Mustang face-off, there’s the wolf among sheep: a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. There are of course the usual wheel spin to kick off another race and it’s anyone’s race before the lights turn green. However, almost immediately the Hellcat is in the dust.

While the Hellcat is no slouch but it wasn't enough to beat the Mustang. The Mustang takes the victory with a 9.198 second time at 142 mph vs 9.370 seconds at 140 mph for the Hellcat.

Next up is the last Mustang, the SN95 (fourth generation) which is also known as the ‘New Edge’ model that sports the facelift design. This is a more potent machine, just like the first-generation Mustang from the first race, and it does indeed hold its own against the S197 – as shown by the trap speed at the end of the quarter mile.

The times prove this is also a high-end achiever like the old-timer Mustang, where the higher speed shows it could be champion given just a little more asphalt: 9.122 and 131 mph for the S197 vs 9.153 and 143 mph for the SN95.
